The Little Paris of Asia
Surrounded by rice paddies and located along side the Siem Reap River, the small provincial capital of Siem Reap is the gateway to the amazing Angkor Wat temples.
These millennium old ruins, often described as the eighth wonder of the world, have been instrumental in securing Siem Reap’s position as Cambodia’s main tourist hub.
In addition, the vibrant and diverse culture and colonial architecture in the Old French Quarter have inspired its nickname ‘The Little Paris of Asia’.
The huge number of tourists who visit the region (676, 809 visitors in 2005 increasing 20% each year) mean that there are now more hotels than temples, and the selection of world class dining and luxurious spa resorts is also on the rise.
But despite the extensive international influences these huge tourist numbers have demanded, Siem Reap has retained its unique culture and traditions.
Whether visiting the temples, silk farms and fishing villages in nearby Tonle Sap Lake or just savouring the delights of the bustling restaurant distract, Siem Reap is an unforgettable experience.
